Review: Snitch by Allison Van Diepen

I finished this, some time ago, around 11:00pm on Saturday night. So by Tuesday I'm working on the review. Enjoy.

(Blurb)
In a school run by gangs, staying out was harder than joining. We knew who our friends were, and were careful what we said.If people thought we were haters, it would only be a matterof time....
Lines are clearly marked at South Bay High School. It's mixed territory for the Crips and the Bloods, which means the drama never stops.
Julia DiVino wants none of it. No colors, no C-Walks -- it's just not her thing.
But when Eric Valienté jumps into her life, everything changes. Lines are redrawn. And then they're crossed.

(Review)
This book is really great. I had some thoughts on this book going in, I didn't really think it would be that good. Sure the story is original and all, but I don't know. I can be complicated. But I was soo wrong. This was awesome. Julia, the main character, is at first a goody, goody girl that tried way to hard to get with Eric the leading man. It is well written, and that's saying something, when the author is writing like an actual teen straight out of Brooklyn. The slang is right on the money also, and gave my friends and I more then a few laughs. So, do you know what it's like to be torn between the Crips and the Bloods? Most likely not, but if you do then you could definitely relate to it. The way the gangs act are like nothing I ever thought. Sex, drugs, gang banging, all of which are dealt with in this book, come out real and strong. The characters will annoy the hell out of you and you'll hate just about most of them. Julia has friends in both gangs as well. Marie is in the Bloods, and Black Chuck is the little brother or the Crips leader, Scrap. I even made a list of all of the characters, what gang they are in, what is their rank in the gang, etc. etc. They ending was amazing, and a secret is revealed. Although while reading you may pick it up, I didn't, even though my friend did. So, I believe everyone should read this book, whether you're a Gangster, a Prep, a Snob, or an Emo, or just a regular kid that doesn't like labels. (i.e. me.) You will learn a lot from it, and you won't be so quick to judge people either.
