News: The Devouring #2

Great news!!!! Simon Holt is releasing the sequel to his thriller The Devouring. This book still follows Reggie and her awesome-ness. But yeah, I had to post about this because I'm like so excited about it! It will be released on September 1, 2009.

Oh my fucking goodness. Very few books make me think that. And this one did. Dade as a character is just so amazing. Read it in two days during work and I just couldn't put it down. Dade decides that Pablo is no longer worth his time and love. And he soon finds his first real friend in Lucy a rebel lesbian that was sent by her parents in LA to live with her Aunt down the street from Dade. And then a boyfriend in Alex, a drug dealer that is nothing like the stereotypes that come with it. All of this going on while Jenny Moore; a little girl goes missing.

This book, filled with love, heartache, friendship and discovering ones true self. All through having of a broken family and living in a homophobic world. The book will keep you guessing and worrying about the characters.

The message is so great and it really is greatly stated in the last paragraph of the book and I love it. Also I wanted to thank my buddy Nat for this recommendation, it was as great as you said it was. :)

Cover: The cover is good, Dade is seen on the front laying in the grass, in a very awesome shirt. On the back on the dust cover is Alex laying next him in the other direction. The title art is also great. And the authors name printed neatly on the bottom in white letters.

Ages: I would say 14 and up. The sexual content is mild but drug use and under aged drinking is seen throughout. Also major assy-ness from some of the characters. So beware. This book also holds the place of my second favorite book. The first place being held my Speak.

Natalie Portman has been cast in Thor

Marvel.com revealed that Natalie Partman will being playing Jane Foster, a nurse who was Thor's first love interest in the comics. Natalie has has been in such productions as; Star Wars and V for Vendetta will star along side Chris Hemsworth who will play Thor and Tom Hiddleston who will play the villain Loki. While Kenneth Branagh is set to direct the film.

The principal photography is set to start in the early part of 1210, with a Spring 2011 release. Portman will soon be starring in 'Brothers' along with Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire (Spider-Man). She has also recently wrapped production on 'Hesher,' starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Portman had better be ready to act along side the Mighty Thor in this upcoming comic adaptation.

The Green Lantern Has been Cast

Variety reported this last Friday that Ryan Reynolds has been cast as Hal Jordan in the live action Green Lantern movie based on the DC Comics of the same name. Martin Campbell is set to direct the picture and even though the budget is not yet set production should begin sometime in January.

Ryan beat out Justin Timberlake and Bradly Cooper for the role. And with such success from film like The Proposal and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. In Wolverine, also a comic based movie Reynolds played wise-cracking Deadpool who is set to play in his own spin-off film. Lets hope that when Reynolds takes that green costum and ring, he doesn't let us comic fans down.

Doing It by Melvin Burgess

I was very, not sure, when I bought this book. The name itself is very out there. But I bought it and was very surprised with it. Dino is such a prick and womanizer. (yes I just started singing that song :-)) Ben is stuck in a sucky relationship with a woman but old then him. and Jon is just weird, but really sweet. Jackie is a little too much in love with Dino. Miss is alittle to needy for Ben's liking. Deborah really likes Jon but will he be man enough to over look her weight?

And under all the sex and nastey-ness is an honest to goodness love story. Everyone in this book is in love in some way or another. And that's the ultimate goal I think of the book. Love is such a taboo for some of these characters. Some straight out saying it, others no believing it, and others just not feeling it.

But the set up of the book might be confusing. Some of the chapters are in third person and then some of the chapters are in first-person but the person talking changes. So although it seems confusing it wasn't for me. But if you like to have a solid point of view for the whole story this isn't for you.

Ages: 15 and up, this book has very adult situations and language throughout.

Young Avengers #1-12

(Review)

This volume, which I shall link, is awesome. I'm like for reals in love with the Young Avengers. This contains the first 12 issues, plus Annual #1. The first four YA are, Iron Lad, Asgardian, Hulkling, and Patriot. And we follow their wacky adventures up until like page 20 at which time they crash a wedding that is being held hostage. Kate Bishop is there and basically saves their asses. Then Kate meets Cassie Lang (Scott Lang's daughter) and they both join the YA! After much arguing and what-not. Kang is also involved in a very confusing time-traveling and annoying way. So yea.

I just love the promo work for this new series. Because it is just so misleading. Anywho, characters I love are Wiccan (Billy), yea you can't have a gay hero with the name 'Asgardian', far too many jokes to be made. But I love his relationship with Teddy (Hulkling)!! And he was a twin brother Thomas (Speed). Now all you comic nerds, who are the parents of these twins? And I thought that when Billy tried to come out as a superhero his parents thought he was coming out as gay. HAHA good times.

Also the love/hate relationship with Kate and Patriot is great and the Young Vision is just so great because him and Cassie have this really awkward thing. (Read to find out, yea?) So, me love this series, it's funny and sometimes sad, with great writing and artwork!!! And the back and forth between the adults and the young avengers is hilarious.

And this comic is the winner of two great awards: 2006 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comic Book, and The 2006 Harvey Award for Best New Series.

Someone called me bubbly...WTF!?!? I didn't believe the lil' hoe (love her tho). So I went and watched some of my Videos. Holy shit! Is that how I really sound? Bloody hell it's horrid. I was having like a break down to my bestie friend not to long ago and she goes "How do you act so bubbly on the outside and then feel all that?"

Granted, I'm an emotional little queer apparently I'm really good at hiding that. The emotional part anyways. So like I never thought of myself as bubbly cause then that would mean Prep. Lets not go there. Cause that would irk the hell out of me. So do I really act bubbly? Cause if I do then that's so not me and that's not the image I want to give people of myself. Whatever, I'm off. America's Got Talent???

Okay, I'm gonna rant just a lil' bit. I'm sitting around, cleaning my glasses, calling up your mum. What?
Nothing.
So I turn on my TV, (Kinda like I do your mum.) Okay, to the point of this post. America's Got Talent, why the hell are two of the judges NOT American? Not that I'm against this, but come on. On Britains got all of the judges are from Britain. I just don't know. I think that if you're going to be a judge on a show that has America in the title you should be American. Just like the people on Australia's Got Talent. One of the judges is from Canada and another is from England. And only one is from Australia. So yea, that's my little rant. Pointless but you know you enjoy it.

Okay, finished this lovely book many weeks ago. And I liked it, it was a good beginning of a series. There are a few flash back, I think, I honestly don't remember. Yea, I'm that good of a blogger. Anywho, if there are flash backs then they confused me. So Dru has the touch and after her father is turned into a zombie, things go down hill. And when he friend Graves turns into a 'kinda' werewolve. (Which isn't spelt like that in the book. Whatever.) So okay book.

The characters are okay and the humor is for sure worth the read if not for anything else. God, this is an attractive post. Damn, so buy the book if you have extra money to spend or are a fan of the author. Or you know library.

Age Group: Mid Teens. Swearing and although not sexual content...Suggested content. Yes isn't it lovely that I remember the dirty stuff. Yea so. This is so Crap. Bye.

Wow, just wow. I've never read a book like this. Parker (not gonna spell that out) has an eating disorder. He is bulimic and has very low self-esteem. The book is told by Parker and his little sister Danielle. Switching on and off. Each chapter is a new day in a count down. Ex: Chapter 1 is entitled "88 days before" and it goes down each chapter. Which is interesting cause you must wonder...Days before what? And by the end this is revealed...Yeaya.


Okay no 'Yeaya' it's quite a sad book. But this book is really good. It's an interesting look in Jewish families and the expectations that come with it. And you get the best of both words reading this book. You get the struggle of the person with the disorder and with Danielle being able to write, you get to see how someone on the outside is handling there brothers problem.


Also there is a quote I would like to point out. "Sometimes trees can look healthy on the outside, but actually be dying inside. These trees fall unexpectedly during a storm." I just love this metaphor for Parker.

Although Parker is kinda annoying. And I honestly don't see how someone as hot as he is would have such low self esteem. He also gets thinner and thinner and the only thing people say about it is "Did you lose weight?" No that believable. Also perhaps if Parker was over weight his story would be more believable.

Cover: Parker is known as a god when it comes to his looks. The boy on the cover although cute is not a god.

Age Group: Teens 13 and up for sure. This book has very little swearing and other then some heavy make-outs, it pretty timid. But the fact that Parker has an eating disorder he does do things that in itself is very...Heavy material. So that's it. Remember don't copy what you read in books, cause if you do, you may actually be a jack-ass.

Holy Shiz, I'm back after another unexpected leave!! I know, I'm just crazy like that. I've finish a few books, but not many...and soon I hope to get a new Vlog up. But since I don't have a Web Cam, I'll have to use my Digital Camera, which needs batteries.

So this was a nice a fast read, finishing it in one afternoon, which is a major accomplishment for me. But that is also cause this book is so very engaging. Parker is a blast, but you have to love sarcastic, bitchy, cynical, pains in the asses. If you like those kind of people then I'm sure you'll like Parker right off the bat. I like those kind of people, being one of them myself. *_* Now, Parker is also holding a secret, just like most people in novels do. And this secret is what drives us to read the story and find out why Parker is so messed up. I'm not going to ruin anything and give away the big ending, but lets go over some things.

Jake is falling for Parker, and to be honest I can't tell if she is okay with this or not. Sometimes she is and sometimes she's the meanest person. Such an annoyance. Chris is Parker's ex, but still a very close friend and in the beginning still in love with her! And the other main character; Becky, the person that basically took over for Parker after her fall from grace. and the new girlfriend of Chris.

To be honest, Parker is the bad guy of the story, sure people are rude to her but most of the time they are just trying to be nice and she throws back bitchiness. She is her own downfall, but I suppose that is usually the point in these kind of novels. If you're like me, then I'm sure you think this is about a girl that had a bad first time, or was even raped. And that is what sent her into the spiral. Happy to say, that is not the case, and it's nice to see that change. A lot of books are like that, and it's getting old to me. But this worked, and I believe that in the end you will be shocked to find out what exactly is bothering Parker.

Time for the warnings. *Sigh* Why do I do these? Regardless, as always swearing is throughout. As well as underage drinking. Sex and sensuality, drug use and suicide tendencies are all present.

This is the second Robin Reardon book that I have read. Thinking Straight being the first. And in comparison, this one didn't live up to my expectation. Jason is coming to terms with being gay, and falling in love. Not to mention the being on the track team, and dealing with homophobia. Enter Nagaraju Burugapalli (call him Raj) he is also on the track team, in the high jump Category. Jason starts to fall for Raj, but Raj hold a secret from Jason that could destory their relationship.

Now, I'm sure most have read the review about Thinking Straight, and saw how much I enjoyed it. Now don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this one as well. It was a fast, intelligent read that got me thinking. But it seemed so unbelievable. Jason lives with his Aunt and Uncle, and he tells his Aunt Aud almost everything. I just don't see this happening. Jason come out very fast, not to many people. But still in a short time period, fist to his Aunt who he is so open with. I don't know...I just can't relate to that personally. As well to the point that there are three gay guys on the track team alone. I don't see that either. And finally, Jason is very open to his coach. It's not a weird thing, just unexpected. I think these points irked me so much is because I don't really live in that kind of environment.

Whatever, lets not let my own bitterness get in the way. All in all, nice heart-warming read of a boys first love. Of course the David Bowie thing is weird. But hey, I don't judge.

Fat, Hoochie, Prom Queen by Nico Medina

First let me say: I FUCKING LOVE NICO MEDINA! *Ahem* Fanboy moment aside. I did truly love this book. And just like in Nico's first book 'Straight Road To Kylie' he keeps up the crazy antics and drama. But this story is told by a spicy, Puerto Rican, Bootyilicious Margarita Diaz. And is set in the same Winter Park High School one year later. Sorry Kiddies, Jonathan is gone, but he makes a surprise visit, so don't worry. Along for the ride is Madge's best friend the Flamey Lucas. Gay right down to the bone, and dealing with love and Madge's crazy ideas.

Now Madge is pissed, Bridget and Madge used to be besties, but after Bridget Betrayed her 10 years ago, and humiliated her two years ago. Now is the time to return the favor. But it's gonna be hard running against a famous, popular, most beautiful girl in school and on TV. But at least she is gonna do it in sexy as can be clothes. Not only is Madge running for Prom Queen, she is helping Lucas with his man trouble and working on getting herself her own. All while trying to dig up dirt on Bridget.

And baby, we got all of the old cast making an appearance. Jonathan is in college, along with Laura. You see, Madge is tryin to set Lucas up with Jonathan, and get Prom Queen advice from Laura. Smart girl, but Jonathan has a boyfriend, (<_< Damn) And I'm sure you all know Kenny, well he ain't in college. He failed and is know in the 12th grade again. This Druggy is trying to get to Lucas and his money. *Shakes head.* Horrible I know, but great drama.

All in all, this book is one of the funniest I've read and although not the most realistic, i can defiantly see this happening. The only thing I wanna bitch about is the ending of Nico's books. They are just so Wrapped up, all nice with a bow. Everyone is friends and no hard feelings. Sure that happens in real life, but they aren't really friends. They just act fake to each other, at least that is how it is in my school. But whatever, the book was great. Funny as fuck, and made you really love the characters, even if they party a bit to hard and drink so much that they end up passing out on a football field with doughnuts. @_@ Yeah crazy shit in Nico's world.

Midnight Alley by Rachel Caine

Finally, this one didn't start straight out of the last book. Well it did, but it wasn't from a cliff hanger. Holy mofo, though. Claire is crazy, I said it deal with it. Not only has she sold her mother effing soul, but she is working with a crazy bloodsucker with a messed up brain. Fact, she doesn't have choice, but still. The Vamps are dieing off and she must work with a cracked up Vamp Myrnin, to find a cure!! Shane is being bitchy to Micheal, Eve is scared cause her brother Jason is on the loose, and oh someone is trying to kill the newest Vampire in fifty years. So Micheal is F***ed. Amelie is nice only when it suits her, and to be honest that's starting to piss people off. And to add to the drama of Morganville. Monica is being real buddy-buddy with Claire, I mean the bitch got a group of guys to try to rape her not too long ago. Bitch needs to back up. But since Claire has Amelie's protection, what is is supposed to do, gots to be civil I guess.

The warning thingy I did on the other two are the same for this one, almost to the 'T'. Psycho people are out to play in the town of Morganville, and no one is safe. And the bitch of it all is, (no not Monica) Claire's parents are moving to the lovely Vamp-ville. Just when things were looking up. Oh wait...Morganville, nothing is ever looking up.
